They're all repulsive, but only Calabresi's comment is both repulsive *and* published in an allegedly mainstream news source. I *expect* this kind of garbage from NR and townhall.com, but the Wall Street Journal--even their wingnutty editorial page--should be held to a higher standard. Nobody listens to Victoria Jackson or takes her seriously.

This is a hard choice. I may be out of touch, but it's hard to believe that this stuff exists at this level. Back in the early 90s when people were first starting to notice the internet, a commonly heard comment was that it would allow the village idiot to be heard 'round the world. I guess I just didn't expect the village idiot to be anything but self published.

Well, they are all worthy nominees. I perused the links and found all of the points to be cogent, if somewhat overheated.

Oh, wait, you think they're wrong? My bad.

For me it's a tie between Melanie Phillips and Mark Levin. They are both great. Whereas, Andrew Sullivan is pathetic.

Jeffrey Lord; comparisons to Fascism are worthy of Free Republic at best.

I give it to Crawford for taking it all the way to mass murder and all of those purges that we can expect.

I wavered, believing at first blush that the award should go to someone representing a bigger (not to say more legitimate) media outlet. Then I read the Velociworld piece, with its multiple references to sadism and psycho-sexual torture, and all bets were off. This is a museum-quality piece, if for no other reason than the level of repression of the person who wrote it. With baggage like that, even Southwest would charge her extra to fly.

I had to disqualify Crawford from the competition, because upon reflection I realized that she is deeply mentally ill. Confronting her with her own pathology in this way would accomplish nothing, I reasoned. On the other hand, a win for Jackson might actually cause her salutary pain.

Wow,

I was stunned by Victoria Jacksons remarks, but then I read the rest. While her remarks are just stupid, the rest are insane! I don't understand why a publication, which is presumably a business wanting to profit from the quality of it's content, would publish such drivel.

Maybe the publishers are insane, too.

Yeah, Jackson makes you wonder.

Look for her comeback to kick off with a Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers ad campaign.

I'm just here to register a vote for velociman as the person who most clearly and with the greatest effect exposed what a sniveling and weak pervert Sullivan really is.

One must read the entire Kim Crawford post. There's really no contest, Jackson's comment may be stupid and ill-conceived, but Crawford reaches a level of delusional paranoia (enthusiastically supported by many in the comments) that is breathtaking in its breadth and scope. Really a tour de force of the lunatic fringe.

Godwin's Law ("As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one") has an informally recognized corollary, i.e., that whoever first mentions Nazis is assumed to have "lost" whatever debate was taking place. May I suggest a similar law, in which whoever calls one's opponent the anti-christ also suffers immediate forensic disqualification? I appreciate the varied levels of evil represented by Pol Pot, Stalin, and Saddam, but the anti-christ is the trump card of hyperbolic comparison. I have to cast my vote for Jackson.

Hey, if you think the Velociworld post above is bad, you should check out her others. A real looney that one.

Her penchant for quoting Faulkner, the 'Goat Man' and the fabled 'Senator' are really something to behold. Seriously, you should drop in over there more often just for the sheer entertainiment value, if you think you can stomach it.

Kim as shown here is also a snake charmer
