Is Apple's much-talked about tablet destined to be a hit, or is it a product in search of a market? Apple has said nothing about the device expected to be unveiled on Jan. 27 but mockups are everywhere.

How much are you willing to pay for Apple's tablet?
  • Not interested
  • $500-$699
  • $700-$899
  • $900-$1,000
  • More than $1,000

If any of the rumors about this new product are true:

I can't wait to hold a 10-inch tablet up to my ear for a phone call;

I can't wait to use a virtual keyboard instead of a real one;

I can't wait to pay twice as much for a tablet than for a new laptop;

I can't wait to pay three times as much for an eReader than a Kindle;

I can't wait to pay three times as much as an iPod for music;

Summing up: I can't wait to be ripped off by Apple for a product that is a jack of all trades, but apparently a master of none of the things that anyone but a spoiled fashonista is interested in... but I'm sure that Paris Hilton will have one.

Steve Jobs was the CEO of the decade for a reason. If the idiocy of Sculley and the board of Apple in the 80's had been averted, who knows where computing would have been by now. Jobs has literally altered four major verticals in computing and done it with none of the downside nonsense of Microsoft....a few missteps along the way, but the company is now capped bigger than GE and possibly GOOGLE.....factor in Pixar and this man has set the tone for literally everything digital in this era........whatever the tablet cost, it will be the harbinger of everything in the next decade.

It's easy to be dismissive, however, each new step on the road to removing controls and borders and barriers in communication of whatever kind, frees the world and eases the burden of change. Be thankful for Mr. Jobs.......he defeated cancer, he has enriched an entire generation, made education purposeful again....with podcasts, QuickTime and laptops that can be made to sing and dance....imagine if a man of his abilities ran the economy.......he's a far cry from the fools doing it today and he has a track record that no one in government can claim to own.......don't bet against Steve Jobs, it's a sucker bet.

Of course I will buy two tablets. I expect the tablet to be great. Our family have been an Apple users since the early 80s. My only concerns 1. How to hold and type on a 10" device? 2. Will there be an aftermarket stand? 3. What kind of case will protect the tablet? Can't wait for Wednesday!
